Types of Foam Used In Beddings or Mattresses

Memory foam, polyurethane foam and latex foam are the three most common types of materials used in mattresses. Though latex foam is seeing a bit of resurgence in the recent years, polyurethane and memory foam have been around for a long time. They are the most common type of materials used in mattresses.

However, latex foam was the common material used in mattresses in the 1950s before the introduction of the other two variants.

Now all these varieties are available in the market in the form of cutting foam in Ipswich.  The size can now be customised as per the customer’s requirement.

Latex Foam

Latex foam is produced by vulcanising liquid latex in a solid form. The foam is also produced with natural latex. The natural latex is harvested from rubber trees, and the synthetic latex is produced from petrochemicals.

Latex is helpful as it instantly reacts to your every move and is foam cut to order. This foam does not sink in or bottom out while you are sleeping. It constantly supports the body and does not get softer with every use.

Polyurethane Foam

It is the lowest quality and least expensive type of foam used in mattresses. People are familiar with polyurethane foam as this type is used in sofa cushions. Their primary compounds are derived from petrochemicals. Many mattress manufacturers use polyurethane foam as the top layer of spring mattresses as they are inexpensive. You will find this foam in several different qualities and densities.

This foam adds some support and softness to the mattress, but it will not provide the same benefit and comfort as associated with latex or memory foam. Polyurethane foam collapses much quicker when pressure is applied.

Memory Foam

It is a type of polyurethane foam that contains added compounds, changing the way it feels. Though, it is also derived from petrochemicals; memory foam is much denser and expensive compared to regular polyurethane foams.

Densities of memory foam vary greatly, and high-density memory foam is durable and of better quality.
